Cross-Ice Registration is Open

Cross-ice is designed to be a fun entry point for young kids to learn hockey. Most kids are between the ages of 5-6 and in Kindergarten or First Grade. At the first practice, they should be able to stand on the ice comfortably by themselves and skate down the length of the ice at least once by themselves.  While we love to teach kids how to skate, having some sort of foundation is important for your child as they get out there. If you need a program to have your player learn how to skate, we have friends at these partner programs that specialize in giving them a skating foundation.

More about Cross-Ice

Example schedule for the season

oSeason late September/early October and ends Mid-March
oThree (3) skates/week
oMonday evening (varies between 4pm-6pm) – Bavis Rink in Rockland
oThis session is held on a ¾ sheet of ice and is lead by the O’Sullivan Hockey Group. Hingham Youth Hockey has worked closely with the The O’Sullivan Group since 2011 as they are trained hockey professionals, many of whom have had successful hockey careers. You can learn more about the O’Sullivan group at  http://www.osullivanhockey.com/coaching_staff.html.
oThe O’Sullivan Hockey Group will have a mix of drills and small-area games that complement the Saturday and Sunday practices run by Hingham coaches.
oSaturday mornings (varies between 9:15am, 10:15am and 11:15am) – Pilgrim Ice Arena in Hingham
oYour player will play on the center ice which is designed for this age group.  It is a half sheet of ice but has boards on all sides and a scoreboard to make it fun!
oFor the first half of the season this session will be used as a practice run by Hingham coaches and focused on skating, stickhandling and passing skills
oIn the second half of the season, 4v4 games will be played against other Hingham Cross-Ice teams.  Goalies are introduced a few weeks into the games and all kids have an opportunity to play goalie.
oSunday afternoon (1pm-2pm) – Pilgrim Ice Arena in Hingham
oOn Sundays we use the regulation size ice on Pilgrim Rink A.
oAll Cross-Ice players will be on the ice at the same time.
oHingham coaches run this practice and will break the players into 5-6 small groups and each group will have approximately 6 players in it. Each group is focused on teaching and practicing skating, stickhandling and passing techniques.  Players will rotate ever 6-7 minutes so they have an opportunity in each group.
o
oAll in, you’ll receive approximately 100 opportunities to be on the ice with instruction throughout the season
