Organization2008-2009 Board of Directors :: President's Message :: Procedures, Policies, Rules and Guidelines :: HYH By-laws :: 2008-2009 Budget :: Injury_Reporting_MASS_Hockey :: AccidentReport.pdf Presidents MessageHingham Youth Hockey August 2006 Once again, it's time for hockey season. All of our teams begin skating after Labor Day and with the Bavis Arena open, we will have plenty of practice time to prepare our kids for their upcoming games. Power Skating will start early this season - on the 11th of September at Bavis. As with last season, we have contracted the O'Sullivan Hockey Academy to run our skills sessions. Please see the web site for details. We will have over 400 boys and girls in the program playing in 24 South Shore and Yankee Conference teams along with 7 Instructional teams. In addition, the Hingham Girls Program has over 70 girls on 5 teams. Together, we are one of the largest programs in the state. We have a terrific and dedicated group of coaches this year. Finding qualified and dedicated coaches can often be a challenge, but this year we have been blessed with an abundance of talented parents that are volunteering countless hours to teach our kids about the game. Again this season, we have contracted more ice so that most practices will have only two teams per sheet of ice. We expect to be able to schedule a practice for each team every week of the season. We are always trying to get more ice at reasonable hours, but even with the new Bavis arena open, we cannot get enough for our requirements. We will be purchasing many new shirts so that each team will have a "standard" HYH shirt. We will also be distributing a pair of new hockey socks to each player with the appropriate HYH colors. This was made possible from a generous donation from State Street Bank. The online registration continues to go very well and we are able to easily track all registrations and payments. Parents can also check that their information is correct and check on their payment status. If you have moved or any of your information has changed, please go online and make the proper changes so that we have a correct and up to date database. If you have not paid yet, please take care if this immediately. It is a tremendous burden for our board to collect the fees to maintain our program. If you are having any financial difficulty, please contact Tim Smith, and he can arrange a payment plan or a scholarship. We have a terrific group of Directors again this year. As your board of directors, we are always looking to improve the program. Once again, we will be reviewing the coaching selection process and tryout process to make sure that they are done properly and fairly. The goal is to make sure that everyone understands the process and that all players are placed at the appropriate level. Also, we are always looking for new people, so please let a board member know if you are interested in helping with the program. If you have any comments or suggestions on how we can improve the program, please feel free to call or email me or any other member of the board. Let's have another great season and make sure that our kids have fun. The 2006-2007 season will mark the end of my service to the members of Hingham Youth Hockey as president. I look forward to a great season and wish to thank all of the families for making HYH such a great program. Very Truly Yours, Tom Freda |
